Anyone can call and come in for a free hearing test, evaluation of the results, and specific recommendations depending on how well a person feels that they need to hear and what they’re comfortable investing in price. We have a wide range of prices and also a wide variety of styles and circuits to choose from.
We also have a concierge service for no extra charge where we will go to the house and perform a complete testing and evaluation in the privacy of your own home.
Why does everyone seem to mumble and I can't understand what they’re saying unless they speak up and look at me?
When your hearing nerve is damaged, it usually is in the high frequencies. High frequencies are the smallest of hairs in your hearing nerve (which is located behind your ear in your mastoid bone) High frequency hair cells is where you hear the consonants in a word. The 21 letters of the alphabet that we use our lips, teeth and tongue to pronounce. t,p,s,
The low frequency hair cells transmit the vowels. We use our lungs to make the vowels. A,E,I,O, and U. They are powerful.
Therefore, people with nerve damage HEAR the way Deaf People TALK.
Deaf people can’t hear anything. But, they can FEEL themselves say the vowels. They can’t feel themselves say the consonants because there is no vibration. So If they say “let’s go for a walk in the park”
The say “le go fo waa iee ahh paaa”
That’s how people with a hearing loss hear sounds.
“Walk in the DARK?” No way!! The person talking usually raises their voice to try and be heard. NO! I SAID!!
You don’t have to yell at me just speak up and pronounce your words and don’t mumble to me going down the hallway!!!!
Sometimes there is corrective surgery if the problem is in the middle ear and not the nerve. Sometimes the bones in the middle ear get dislodged or stuck together and don’t conduct the sound to the nerve and then to the brain. Ear Nose and Throat Doctors (Otolaryngologist) can perform micro surgery to fix or replace the bones in the middle ear. But most of the time the nerves are damaged from “acoustic trauma” (loud noises)
Once the nerve is damaged the only help is a hearing instrument.
Today’s technology can listen to the environment and recognize the difference between background noise and speech. It then can separate the background noise and soften it while it enhances the speech sounds.
The new technology also records the amount of time that one wears the instrument: how many hours and how many hours a day; what types of environments the person has been in i.e. speech in noise, quiet, people speaking softly or loudly. This way when the patient comes in for a checkup the specialist can download the information into the file and make very specific changes to the prescription in the hearing aid.
Once the hearing instrument is paid for, there is little or no charges for follow-ups, retesting and reprograming the hearing instrument.
